The key is not only correcting and benefiting from past history, but it is also means valuing what the present has to offer.  That’s what counts! This “Gift of Life” is so important and so precious that every moment deserves some form of intelligence and guidance; which then allows room for growth and change.  For me, the opportunity that seems to be knocking is the act of teaching and counseling these families in need. Reaching towards every goal in my life, suggests being a part of theirs. Therefore, these families will not only learn something, but I myself, will also gain understanding…and support!”

                                                                                  Yours truly,

                                                                                   Jeanine Smalls

Greetings Harlem family,

My name is Jeanine Smalls and I am the “new kid on the block.”  I just moved to Evans, GA and transferred to Harlem HS from Chester, VA. This is a small step on how I intend to properly introduce myself to you, and vice versa.  Right now, I am one of the Special Education IRR teachers in our program. My previous team and I were like family, right from the start, so to clear the air let me at least tell you a little bit about myself:

I graduated with honors and outstanding merit from Virginia State University in May 2000.  Since then, I have been committed to playing an active and supportive role in the worldwide community and making global education a top priority.  I am a very devoted to teaching, counseling, and providing community service to ALL families in need. For nineteen years I have been teaching both part time and full time in various school districts.  This would include roles such as a full-time elementary and middle school special education teacher (inclusion and self-contained), permanent sub, instructional assistant, assistant coach to LMS Step Team, tutor, etc.  I have also had the pleasure of teaching overseas for 4 years as an ESL teacher in Seoul, Korea and I’m truly grateful for my experience there because it has enhanced my ability to develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to teach diverse learners.  Furthermore, participating in high quality training and preparation programs as the founder of a non-profit organization -Community Life Support Network, Incorporated (CLSI)- has increased my ability to go a step beyond “educator” by diving into other roles such as counselor (residential and family) and community service worker. Again for nineteen years, my main mission has been to support those programs and services that bridge the achievement gaps enabling all youth to meet world class standards, qualify for good colleges, and train for successful jobs.

As you can see, I have worn many hats and loved every minute of it. This passion of mine has me eager for more and extra excited for what this community has to offer. I have ALWAYS been a hard worker, a fast learner, and certainly a team player.  Having said that, I look forward to us having a FANTASTIC school year!!
